Chapter 10

October 15 - Day:

I wake before the alarm goes off. For once this week, I’ve slept well. Stretching my arms overhead, I’m surprised to find my body is completely relaxed. That doesn’t happen very often, especially once I hit the three-thousand-year mark. My head turns to the pillow where Chloe slept, but she’s not there. Her absence catches me off guard, but then I hear the sound of water running in the bathroom. She’s in the shower. My first thought is to join her, but no doubt it would make her late for work. It could make me late, too.

This reminds me, I didn’t check my app last night.

Bit distracted, weren’t you, old boy?

Another one of those stupid grins appears on my face and I can’t seem to get rid of it. Picking up my iPad from the bedside table, I scan over my schedule for today. It’s two normal reaps. No changes. The first one isn’t until 9:47 and the other one is at 3:23. This means I can drop Chloe off at work, pick her up when she gets off, and most importantly, get her to the party on time to avoid Andrea’s wrath. The sun is out, so we can even take that ride on my bike. I love it when everything comes together.

Chloe comes out of the bathroom, her hair still damp. She’s wearing a pair of dark jeans along with a tan bra, but no shirt.

Speaking of coming together—Behave. Work, remember?

“I couldn’t find your hair dryer and I apparently forgot to pack a shirt.” She gives me a bashful look. “I was wondering if I could borrow one of yours?”

Before I can answer, she comes over to the bed and sits down next to me. “I’ll work in the back of the museum all day so I can dress more casually.”

She reaches out to push a lock of hair off my forehead. It catches me off guard. Belatedly, I realize I still have the Grim Reaper app pulled up on my iPad. The information for my second reap is on full display. I distract her by pulling her into an embrace. As I give her a kiss, I reach over, quickly shutting the app.

That was close.

She leans back, biting her bottom lip. A sly smile spreads across her face.

Okay, what’s this?

Reaching behind her back, she undoes her bra. She holds it up in her hand before dropping it onto the bed.

Something tells me neither one of us is going to make it to work on time.
